The Beautiful Petersons Lookout (Victoria, Australia)

Petersons Lookout has gorgeous views over the Tyers River Gorge and the Moondarra Tyers Park. There are several viewing platforms a gentle 400 meters from the car-park.
The lookout is around 10 minutes drive from the Tyers township and is a wonderful location to stop on the way to the historic township of Walhalla.
What to expect at Petersons Lookout
Whilst Petersons Lookout is not a large area, there are two viewing platforms that look into the gorge and down to the Latrobe Valley region.
There is a picnic table but no other facilities (no water or toilets). But this is why we like Petersons Lookout, it is simple and quiet and you might be lucky enough to have the place to yourself.

Getting there
Petersons Lookout is on the W2 track off the Tyers-Walhalla Road and is well signposted.
Be mindful that the dirt road is narrow and can have some decent sized pot-holes so drive carefully.

How long to stay
Petersons Lookout is only small so 1 hour is enough to enjoy the views.
Where to stay
There is no accommodation at the lookout area. Closest main towns are Traralgon, Morwell or Moe. Alternatively stay in the historic township of Walhalla which is only 30 minutes drive.

Tips for visiting Petersons Lookout
- Drive safely as the dirt road is windy and narrow
- The tracks to the platforms are not wheelchair accessible but there is still a nice view from the carpark
- Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the peacefulness
- Be careful of snakes during hot weather
- Take your own water
- There are no toilets
- The paths are not suitable for strollers / pushers
Things to do nearby
As mentioned above the lookout is only 30 minutes drive from the historic township of Walhalla which is worth visiting.
If you enjoy walking you could do the 14km (one way) Wirilda Track which follows the Tyers River that is seen from the viewing platform.

Is Petersons Lookout worth visiting?
Petersons Lookout offers a peaceful place to gaze over the Tyers River Gorge and enjoy the beauty of the Australian bush. Combining this with a trip to the historic township of Walhalla makes for a perfect daytrip.
If you are travelling with children just be mindful there are no toilets and the tracks are not suitable for pushers / strollers.
